And so the season is set to begin with the first races on the calendar less than a month away; forced base miles in all kinds of miserable weather, torrential rains, snow, ice and even some sunshine.  But now it’s time to start focusing those workouts to prepare the body and mind for those race intensity bursts, now is the time to start throwing in some of our beloved intervals.  Yes, the wonderful interval workout is upon us………..it’s time to remember the pain!

Just found this little note about former local pro Doug Ollerenshaw:

Ollerenshaw to lead Myogenesis team

Retired pro Doug Ollerenshaw will lead the Southeastern US regional Team Myogenesis.com presented by United HealthCare, the team announced this week. Ollerenshaw left professional cycling to attend law school at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of 2008, but will be mentoring and racing with the team. Ollerenshaw raced his final year with the Rock Racing squad after seasons with Health Net and Jelly Belly.

Also joining the elite amateur team is Ryan Sullivan from Jittery Joes, Thad Dulin, (DLP/Kane), Michael Wolf, formerly of Navigators, with Eric Murphy as director and racer. Filling out the roster are Cleve Blackwell, Oneil Samuels; Adam Ray, Sandy Rosell , Chris Ernst, Geoff Mina, Brady Rogers, Nick Housley and David Hutton.

The teams sponsors this year included Myogenesis Nutrition, United HealthCare, Blue Competition Cycles, SRAM, Louis Garneau, Maxxis, Tifosi Optics, Thompson, Industry Nine, Serfas, Northwave, Georgia Cup race series, Connect First, www.got19fruits4u.com, Smyrna Bicycles, Glory Cycles, and former shop sponsor to Jittery Joes, The Hub.

Good for Doug, even better for the riders he’s going to be mentoring

Every New Years day for as many years as I can remember I have gone for a ride……..rain or shine (or snow and freezing rain as I experienced a few years ago) and this year was no different.  The team and I all met up at 11:00am and headed out Skyline to meet our wet and wild destiny.

To say that it rained for the entire ride would be an understatement; the wind howled at times, but the rain was constant, constantly pouring with no respite.  Thankfully the temperatures where fairly mild so even though we were completely soaking wet nobody was really too cold so we ended up getting some decent miles in.  Surprisingly there were quite a few other riders out getting there misery on.

Let the suffering begin!
